Experience the thrill of conservation in action by joining our weekend expedition focused on leopard research in the breathtaking Baviaanskloof mountains. This unique opportunity lets you walk in the footsteps of the elusive leopard, exploring one of South Africa’s most spectacular landscapes while actively contributing to vital conservation efforts.
What to Expect:
- Engage in real fieldwork: You’ll accompany our experienced researchers on short daily hikes (2-3 Hours) along some of the most beautiful sections of the renowned Leopard Trail.
- Check trail cameras: Help collect data by reviewing footage from our strategically placed cameras that monitor leopards and other wildlife in their natural habitat.
- Scenic adventure: Daily hikes on the most beautiful and scenic sections of the Leopard Trail, offering awe-inspiring views of rugged mountains, pristine valleys, and diverse ecosystems—perfect for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike.

Logistics
Participants can arrive either the Thursday night or Friday morning, with the first data collection hike starting on Friday. Friday and Saturday have 2 hikes per day, each 2-3 hours long. The last hike is on Sunday morning.
Accommodation is provided for Thursday through to Saturday night in one of the two Cedar Falls self-catering guest houses, in which rooms are shared between 2-4 people. Bookings are per person, and we seek to put people who know each other in the same rooms- ideally bring your family or friends in order to share rooms with people you know.
Each guesthouse has a self catering kitchen, and participants provide their own catering.

Cost
R2900 per person. Your funds go directly to support the Leopard Research project.
